I am thrilled to have been chosen as the photographer and videomaker for the winner's exhibition of the fourth annual Crafts Award, in collaboration with artist Alice Kettle. This prestigious event, organized by Brookfield Properties and the Crafts Council, celebrates the outstanding work of artists selected from Crafts Council's Collect, the leading international fair for contemporary craft and design.
Alice Kettle, a renowned British textile artist represented by Candida Stevens Gallery, is the deserving winner this year. Her intricate and complex textile pieces, combining machine stitch and handstitch in techniques like embroidery and patching, create visually and conceptually textural artwork. Her delicate color palette, graphic lines, and unique hand-drawn style make her creations truly distinctive.
As a photographer and videomaker, my task is to capture the essence of Alice Kettle's artistic process and provide an intimate look behind the scenes at her studio. I am excited to present her journey, from concept to completion, through a compelling video that showcases her technical mastery and dedication to traditional textile practices. At the same time, I will highlight her innovative and contemporary approaches that push the boundaries of the medium.
This exhibition will feature a carefully curated selection of Kettle's significant works, offering a comprehensive view of her artistry. Through my photography and videos, viewers will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the intricate details of her creations and gain a deeper understanding of her craft.
I am honored to contribute to this exhibition, and I look forward to presenting the portraits and videos that reveal Alice Kettle's artistic process, studio space, and her latest works. The exhibition will be hosted at the prestigious 99 Bishopsgate and Frenchurch Street in London, providing art enthusiasts with an enriching experience into the world of contemporary craft and design.
Big Thank You to Ayleen Genero for trusting in my vision and Poshali Goel for editing the videos with me. Working alongside Alice Kettle has been a dream
